‘Supacell’ has provided us with an overpowering entry into the Netflix Top 10 thanks to its outstanding critical reaction, which has resulted in nothing less than a perfect score on the aggregator. It arrived the previous week, placing itself directly in second place among the English-language series, only below ‘The Bridgertons,’ and this week it has already surpassed it, with very good figures (although it is not even close to the spectacle that Shondaland’s production has given us in recent months): 61.2 million hours played and an estimated total of 11.8 million views have been played.

The television show ‘Supacell’, which is currently in its fourth season on Prime Video, can be interpreted as a gentle and unobtrusive alternative to ‘The Boys’. The satirical tone and the use of superheroes to talk about realities that are closer to us than the super humans who jump over buildings in one leap are two things that it seems to have in common with it. In this instance, this social component is well accomplished by situating the action in the working-class areas of South London and concentrating on people who are members of that community.

In the series, we are introduced to a group of individuals who come to the realization that they possess superpowers. One of these individuals is a delivery man who travels through time and must work along with other companions who also possess powers. There is a young woman who possesses telekinetic powers, a young boy who possesses great strength, a speedster, and another someone who has the ability to become invisible. When they work together, they will confront a shadowy organization that keeps an eye on people who are similar to them and threatens them.

It is obvious that one of the primary themes of a series that contains the usual epic elements, but also insightful reflections on the social mechanisms of marginalization and exclusion of the different, is the concept of community and the manner in which individuals band together to protect themselves from external threats. There are just six episodes in this series, but it ties other British bets that have a similar issue, such as “Misfits.” Other great features of this series are the excellent performers and the ordinary atmosphere.

During the first episode of the new season of the superhero show “Daredevil” on Netflix, there is a particular scene in which we are finally able to meet the antagonist who has been following criminals in Hell’s Kitchen for the previous hour. While The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, is making his way through a hospital, he is confronted by a man who is armed with a gun. Through a series of rapid and effective movements, the Punisher strikes the man in the head, rendering him unable to function and disarming him. After that, he throws the gun into a medical waste bin, barely pausing for breath as he continues on with his quest to kill as many people as possible.

I will never forget the scene since it was such a powerful demonstration of power and ill will. In addition, it has remained in my memory because, despite the fact that the sequence is obviously violent, it is not grotesque in the manner that, in my opinion, has become increasingly characteristic of Marvel shows that are available on Netflix.

One of the most prominent peculiarities that I possess as a critic, and one that I make an effort to be forthright about, is the fact that I have very definite boundaries of tolerance for particular types of violence. It’s a restraint that dates back to my youth, when the mother of one of my friends made the decision that it was a good idea to read a graphic novel interpretation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” to a pair of young children. The graphic novel adaption included a visceral, half-page image of the Bride being torn apart. I experienced nightmares over a period of one month, and even after more than twenty years, they continue to reoccur on occasion.

Despite the fact that I have trained myself to be more tolerant of visual depictions of violence, I will give myself permission to look away when I am watching something for pleasure. For example, I do not require to see Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) get impaled on a piece of rebar or to watch Huck (Guillermo Díaz) break out his drills on “Scandal” for a second time. In addition, I make an effort to be forthright about situations in which I am unable to deal with something, and I make an effort to differentiate between the reactions I show and the more critical evaluations I make regarding instances of on-screen violence that are poorly executed.

Due to this particular preference of mine, both “Daredevil,” which I had a neutral opinion of, and “Jessica Jones,” which I enjoyed quite a bit, have proven to be a strain and a drain for me. One moment on “Daredevil,” our titular hero Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is being pulled around on a hook that is implanted in his entrails. The next moment, once he has recovered, he is dragging a mobster off of a meat hook in a freezer, and the sound of a good wet slurp is playing in the background. In a subsequent episode of same season, the Punisher is shot, and the production makes sure to maintain a close-up shot of him as he stitches his own arm.

Despite the fact that Jessica Jones, played by the brilliant Krysten Ritter, was going up against a mind-controlling rapist named Kilgrave, played by David Tennant, the film “Jessica Jones” was not about that. Kilgrave was responsible for euthanizing his mother, forcing a heartbroken doctor to go after her cheating wife with a knife, brainwashing a man into chopping up his partner and disposing of the dead man in their kitchen garbage disposal, and perhaps most notably, hypnotizing a man who was walking through the park to force a pair of garden shears through his own cranium for him to kill himself.
