Secret Service disarray after Trump assassination attempt

Questions follow shock. Democratic and Republican lawmakers want to know how a shooter killed a former president.

Sunday, July 14. Christians pray for Donald Trump, who was assassinated the day before, in a small park near the Republican convention’s security walls in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

They ask questions the Lord cannot answer. “How is it that an armed man could have been less than 150 meters from him?” questions pro-Trump Catholic Rick Acevedo, “shocked” by the Butler (Pennsylvania) meeting where his champion was targeted.

New York (AP)— After a hail of gunshots hit his rally, Secret Service personnel told him to leave the platform. He was bleeding from the head.

But Donald Trump has to act.

“Wait, wait, wait!” the former president told his operatives, who kept him in a bubble and assisted him up.

Trump, bloody-faced, pounded his right fist through agents’ arms. He raised it high and pumped his fist.

“Fight!” he shouted to the crowd and cameras as he pumped his arm three times, showing defiance and reassurance. People cheered and stood as the motion was made.

“We must move!” an agent yelled.

It was a stunning display of Trump’s political instincts and awareness of his image. Trump stopped and delivered his message despite unbelievable pandemonium, capturing memorable photos and film that will go down in history.

Trump told the Washington Examiner that when he looked up and saw the audience still there, he felt he needed to reassure and portray power.

“The energy coming from the people there in that moment, they just stood there, its hard to describe what that felt like, but I knew the world was looking, I knew history would judge this and I knew I had to let them know we are okay,” he added

Trump has always watched his facial expressions, wardrobe, and camera angles during interviews.

His glaring Atlanta mug image was instantly etched in the public’s memory and plastered on campaign T-shirts, posters, and other material.

Trump looked serious and angry when photographers were led in for a minute each day to chronicle history at his criminal hush-money trial in New York. His expression usually eased once they left.

According to a book by his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, Trump refused to admit his COVID-19 diagnosis in 2020. After receiving intensive treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Trump exited Marine One and climbed the South Portico steps to return to the White House.

At dusk, he removed his mask and gave the departing helicopter a double thumbs-up on the balcony, American flags behind him.

In her book “Confidence Man,” New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman wrote that Trump considered a more dramatic scene in which he “would be wheeled out of Walter Reed in a chair” and “would dramatically stand up, then open his button-down dress shirt to reveal” another with a “Superman logo beneath it.”

Trump tweeted Saturday night that he “knew immediately that something was wrong” when he “heard a whizzing sound, shots and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

Trump then stated that a gunshot had entered his right upper ear.

He hid behind his lectern as agents descended on him.

When they confirmed the shooter was down, Trump repeatedly told his agents to “let me get my shoes” as they tried to quickly bring him to safety.

He vigorously pumped his arm again as he was led across the stage, causing one agent to duck to avoid being smacked by his elbow, before being helped down the steps.

The crowd shouted “USA!”

His operatives slammed the bulletproof door behind him when he elevated his SUV one more time.

Trump’s reaction reassured audience supporters he wouldn’t back down.

Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, mayor Jondavid Longo, who was in the first row when the shootings started, claimed he jumped to protect his wife, checked for guns, and yelled for people to get down.

“I was making sure everybody was OK and then I kept looking at the president, of course, because I had just seen the president get shot,” Longo recalled. I noticed him grasp his ear. The Secret Service then pounced on him. I saw them raise him. Right half of his skull was bloody.”

He said Trump “put his fist in the air” shortly after. He told us he was fine, and they took him away. It was incredible.”

Kristen Petrarca, 60, a Democrat, wanted to attend a Trump rally. She and several pals arrived early and sat behind Trump in the bleachers.

She heard gunshots and exclaimed, “Pop, pop, pop, pop,” in a Zoom interview from a neighboring hotel hours after the attack.

She saw Trump clutch his ear and Secret Service personnel rush the platform. She witnessed the former president lift his fist as blood gushed from his ear.

I didn’t sense his fear. She stated he was agitated and enraged. “He wanted us to fight.”
